Biography:Christopher Belsey is a composer currently active in the indie film scene in Glasgow, scoring and producing music for a variety of films and documentaries Christopher’s journey in music began when he started to learn the piano at the age of eight. Throughout his piano studies he developed a fascination for musical notation and how music worked in films, all of which ultimately led to his ambition to learn about film scoring and orchestration. After finishing school, he continued in higher education by first studying Sound Production at college level before advancing on to study composition at Edinburgh Napier University. Throughout his studies he worked on a number of small notable projects, including: I Am Scottish (2009), a competition entry which won the overall prize at the SQA Star Awards 2009; Once ere Was A Boy (2010), a short film which won several awards; Connection Please (2011), a pilot documentary made for BBC Scotland; and a radio jingle for K.A. Radio: Wide Awake Breakfast Show (2012). After graduating with a First Class Honours, he continued to work on a variety of projects ranging from student and promotional films, to writing arrangements for songs, and was the piano accompanist for a choir. By 2015 Christopher began frequently collaborating with the Glasgow Film Crew – a group of filmmakers who contribute their expertise to produce micro, short, and feature length films covering a diverse range of genres. Notable films by the group Christopher has scored are: The Last Equinox (2016); The Turtle Terminator (2017); The Beclowning (2017); and Invasion (2018). Christopher continues to work on other projects too, including: writing, producing and arranging songs, orchestrating scores, and scoring documentaries, three of which include: In the Arena: Damien Murray (2015); Living With Disabilities in Belarus (2015); and Babcia Kazia (2017). Christopher received critical praise for his score for The Turtle Terminator (2017), with film critic Richard Propes commenting: “Christopher Belsey’s original music gives the film a quirky zest”. Both his score alongside Ewan Manson’s original song for The Last Equinox (2016) won the award for ‘Best Soundtrack’ at the DonQuest Short Film Festival 2017, and also received a nomination for ‘Best Music’ at the 2017 Maverick Movie Awards.
